On March 13, members of the AmCham Haiti Board of Directors and Executive Director Erika Rosenthal participated in a working lunch with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Henry Wooster and members of the U.S. Embassy team. The meeting provided an important opportunity for an open and candid exchange on Haiti’s current challenges and the path toward economic recovery and long-term stability.

At the center of the discussion was the issue of security, which all participants recognized as a prerequisite for economic growth, investment, and job creation. Chargé d’Affaires Wooster reaffirmed that supporting stability in Haiti remains a top priority for the United States and emphasized the importance of continued efforts to improve the security environment as a foundation for national recovery.

The conversation also focused on the critical role of Haiti’s private sector during this period of transition. Participants discussed how business leaders can contribute to restoring confidence, supporting economic activity, and helping create opportunities for growth despite the country’s ongoing challenges. AmCham Haiti reiterated its commitment to serving as a constructive partner in efforts aimed at strengthening the business environment and promoting sustainable development.

Another key theme of the meeting was the importance of improving Haiti’s image internationally. Participants explored ways the private sector can help showcase the resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit that continue to exist throughout the country. The discussion highlighted the need to communicate not only Haiti’s challenges but also the opportunities, achievements, and initiatives that demonstrate the country’s potential for recovery and growth.

The exchange also addressed regional economic relations, particularly the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue with the Dominican Republic. AmCham Haiti emphasized the need for reciprocity in trade relations and reiterated concerns regarding non-tariff barriers that affect Haitian businesses and exporters. Participants agreed that stronger regional cooperation remains essential for economic development and cross-border commerce.

A particularly meaningful part of the discussion centered on the concept of “quick wins”—practical, visible initiatives that can be implemented by the private sector to generate positive momentum, restore confidence, and demonstrate progress. These projects, whether related to economic development, community engagement, workforce development, or investment promotion, were viewed as opportunities to help accelerate recovery while delivering tangible benefits to citizens and businesses alike.

The meeting reflected the value of ongoing dialogue between the private sector and international partners during a critical period for Haiti. By participating in these conversations, AmCham Haiti continues to ensure that the voice of the business community is heard on issues affecting economic recovery, investment, competitiveness, and national development.
