During a recent meeting, members of the AmCham Board of Directors engaged in a discussion with Mr. Nick Rene Hartmann, representative of the UNDP in Haiti. This interaction was extremely enlightening, providing insights into the scope and objectives of the UNDP in Haiti.

Mr. Hartmann introduced us to the mandate of the UNDP in the country, emphasizing their role as a development agency with a focus on humanitarian aspects. The UNDP actively collaborates with both public and private sectors, playing a cross-cutting role by working in tandem with various ministries. For instance, the organization provides technical support to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and places significant emphasis on the judicial system. Despite its critical nature, this sector accounts for only 0.8% of the state budget of Haiti, rather than the anticipated minimum of 4%. Given this, the current collaboration of UNDP with the Ministry of Justice is vital, especially considering the high expectations for the protection of investments.

Additionally, Mr. Hartmann highlighted the UNDP’s commitment to supporting women and integrating the youth. Through strategic partnerships, notably with Digicel and ONI, the UNDP also intends to assist in the upcoming elections.

After these insightful discussions, we are confident that promising collaboration opportunities exist between AmCham and the UNDP. With this in view, we are looking forward to working together on various projects in the future.
