Amcham Haiti organized a luncheon on September 25th at Hotel Montana on the theme “How the Private Sector can fight Corruption?” The event had a good attendance where our President Philippe R. Armand, made his opening remarks on Amcham’s interest in promoting the “Rule of Law” in Haiti and fighting corruption fits into Amcham’s mission. The first speaker was Colonel Antoine Atouriste, the Director of “Unite de Lutte Contre la Corruption” or ULCC  who talked about the work that ULCC had conducted over the past year and how he was pleased to work more closely with Amcham Haiti and Transparency International on fighting corruption. The main speaker was Susan Cote-Freeman, of Transparency International who spoke about Corruption from a global context, and the implications of corruption on large and small businesses. The last speaker was Marilyn Allien, the Director of “La Fondation Heritage en Haiti” or LFHH who made a presentation on different scenarios of corruption that affect companies globally. LFHH hopes that the “Clean Business Initiative” that they are trying to promote in Haiti is a good first step on educating local companies on ways to fight corruption. We hope this is the first of several events that we can organize to discourage corruption.
