JetBlue to enter Haiti at end of 2013

Last week Jetblue announced on its website that it will begin services to Haiti from Fort Lauderdale and JFK beginning in December 2013. Jetblue is already flying to other countries in the Caribbean and now plans to add Port-au-Prince to its list of Caribbean destinations.

Over 430,000 passengers flew to Haiti from the US in 2012, a 9% drop from 2011 figures according to the Bureau of Transportation . Over 82,000 passengers flew from New York City which represented 19% of US passengers coming to Haiti last year, and 95,000 from Fort Lauderdale or 22% of passengers.

At the end of 2012, American Airlines flew 66% of passengers from the US in 2012 or over 285,000 passengers. The other airlines coming in 2nd place with passengers from the US, Insel Air and Delta Air Lines both had 7% of passengers coming from the US.

From 2002 to 2012, the number of passengers flying to Haiti from the US grew by 35%.
