On April 26, 2024, a lunch meeting was held with Mr. Nick Hilbergt, the Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti, attended by Mr. Jean Philippe Boisson, Mme. Tatiana Siméon, Mrs. Erika Rosenthal from AmCham Haiti.
Key points discussed included:
Airports and Ports: There are challenges in resuming commercial flights to Haiti due to TSA requirements. The TSA must evaluate the Port-au-Prince airport, but this is delayed as TSA personnel need to travel there, which is currently difficult. The U.S. Embassy’s helicopter makes weekly, soon to be monthly, entries, delaying TSA evaluations. Additionally, aircraft fuel comes from the Port-au-Prince port, which is currently closed, complicating refueling.
MSS (Multinational Security Support): Kenya has signed an agreement with the Haitian government, represented by former Prime Minister Ariel Henri, to support the Haitian National Police (PNH). The Presidential Council may request the implementation of this agreement.
Youth programs: Nick Hilbergt plans to launch an arts and music program for youth and will reach out to Mr. Clement Belizaire about it. He also plans a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador and the AmCham Board in the third week of May. Additionally, there are discussions on developing professional exchange programs for the private sector, including a program focused on women entrepreneurs in Haiti.
A meeting is being planned between the US Ambassador and AmCham Haiti’s Board of Directors for the 3rd week of May.
