Amcham Haiti and the US Ambassador Merten received over 250 guests for the Annual cocktail reception between Amcham and the US Ambassador. Ambassador Merten delivered a speech on how investment is key for Haiti to move forward, not only creating more jobs but in obtaining more revenues from taxes to pay it’s budget expenditures. Several efforts must be undertaken by the government to facilitate investments such as passing laws to quicken the process of starting a company or to obtain a construction permit. Another speech was delivered by Philippe Armand, a Board Member of Amcham and VP of AACCLA where he focused on Amcham’s mission of Trade Facilitation in Haiti, to assist the government on improving the country’s Competitiveness, focusing on structural weaknesses of the country and high transaction costs. Haiti must focus on FDI and take the necessary steps to increase FDI, and have a long term vision. Both speeches are available in the News section of the website.
